Fondant cakes require patience and discipline to be able to create perfectly flat surface with straight smooth vertical sides. You will learn how to create the cake from the baking of the cake layers to kneading the colours into the fondant.  We will make a fondant decorated 6 inch cake, 4 layers individually to take home.

Make the batter, bake and slice the cake into the required layers

Understand the techniques involved to create a good batter


Make a Swiss buttercream and use this for icing

Crumb coating - piping vs direct application

Applying colours to the fondant

Methods to develop the marbled effect

Moulding the fondant onto the cake and maintaining smooth sides and edges


Stacking the cakes

Finishing touches to cover up gaps and re-smoothening

Twisting coloured fondant with white fondant

Rolling out marbled fondant to cover the cake

Making rope border using remaining fondant

Making roses using fondant

Decorate the covered cake with completed roses
